Ukraine-Russia prisoner swap process begins – lawyer

Ukrinform
The lawyer of captured Ukrainian sailors who are prisoners of war, Nikolai Polozov, has stated that the process of prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine has begun.

"The defense team of Ukrainian prisoners of war did not comment on unverified rumors and assumptions regarding their release. Now we can say that the process has begun," the lawyer wrote on Facebook.

Polozov also confirmed that the sailors had left a Moscow-based Lefortovo pre-trial detention center on the morning of September 7.

The list of Ukrainian political prisoners prepared for the release as part of the prisoner exchange included 24 sailors who were detained near the Kerch Strait in late November 2018, and 11 more people convicted in the Russian Federation, including Ukrinform correspondent Roman Suschenko.
