President Zelensky sets new lawmakers tasks

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has set the newly elected Parliament a number of tasks, including the reform of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary, continuation of decentralization and European integration reforms, economic liberalization and strengthening of national security.

“The level of trust in the new parliament is enormous and, therefore, the level of responsibility and expectations is even greater. You will face a number of challenges and tasks,” Zelensky said, while delivering an extraordinary message to the new members of the Parliament of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Among the tasks for the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation, the Head of State mentioned the “introduction of the rule of the people”, the removal of parliamentary immunity, the law on impeachment, the “effective reform” of the law enforcement agencies and the judicial system.

In addition, Zelensky noted that the Parliament should continue the reforms of decentralization and European integration, liberalize the economy and build a digital state in a smartphone, create a "powerful investment magnet" to attract foreign investment.

According to the President, the tasks for the Verkhovna Rada are to overcome illegal takeovers, monopoly, smuggling, to gain real energy independence, energy efficiency and to solve problems with tariffs, to develop industry, agrarian sector, infrastructure, medicine, to improve education and revive Ukrainian science.

"And the most important task is to strengthen national security and defense, end the war in Donbas and restore sovereignty over Crimea which was annexed by the Russian Federation," the President said.
