Ukrinform
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the State of Israel to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.

The president said this at a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in Kyiv on Monday, August 19, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine and Israel have long-standing close historical ties. Our peoples together went through all the tragedies of recent history – the Holodomor, the Holocaust, the Second World War, and the totalitarian Soviet regime. I know that the media outlets positively cover the visit by the Israeli prime minister of the National Memorial to the Holodomor Victims. It will be warmly welcomed by Ukrainian society. I appealed to the Israeli side to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people," Zelensky said.

In addition, Zelensky and Netanyahu will also commemorate the victims of the Babyn Yar tragedy.

As Ukrinform reported, the official ceremony of a meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was held in Kyiv today.

This is the first visit of the head of the Israeli government to Ukraine over the past 20 years.
