Czaputowicz: UN doesn’t accept idea of appointing special envoy for Ukraine

Poland’s proposal to appoint a special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Ukraine was not accepted by the organization.

Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said this in an exclusive commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York.

New tools are needed to find a solution that would stop the war in Ukraine, Czaputowicz noted.

“We previously suggested using some other comprehensible tools. In particular, a special representative of the UN Secretary-General could be appointed to monitor what is happening in Donbas, in Ukraine,” the Polish Foreign Minister said.

According to the minister, such an official could inform the international community about the situation in Ukraine.

“There are such special representatives in other regions. What’s wrong with having such an envoy for Ukraine? This idea, let’s say, was not accepted, was not approved,” the minister added.
