Ukrainian prime minister, ODIHR EOM head discuss snap parliamentary elections
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said this during a meeting with Albert Jónsson, the head of the OSCE ODIHR EOM (Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Election Observation Mission) on Wednesday, according to the Government portal.
"Your mission - the observation mission - is of the utmost importance. We attach great importance to the democratic elections. The presidential campaign has shown the world our openness and democracy. It is critical to ensure the parliamentary elections be held at a high level as well," Groysman said.
Mr Jónsson, in turn, said that it was a great inspiration for him to work in Ukraine.
Albert Jónsson comes from Iceland, had been working for many years in the Government of Iceland and has held diplomatic posts. In 2018, he was appointed the Head of the OSCE ODIHR Mission, in particular, he led the team to observe the holding of the presidential elections in Lithuania.
As reported, on June 11, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) formally opened an election observation mission (EOM) for the 21 July early parliamentary elections in Ukraine. The mission is led by Ambassador Albert Jónsson and consists of a core team of 19 experts based in Kyiv.
