The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania calls on the global community for solidarity regarding non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation.

Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktoras Pranckietis said this in his speech at the opening of the 10th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We consider the crime committed by the Soviet Union against the Crimean Tatar people in 1944 to be a genocide. We call upon the international community to stand in full solidarity with us on this issue and to continue the policy of non-recognition of Russia’s occupation of Crimea," Pranckietis said.

As Ukrinform reported, the Parliament of Lithuania on June 6 adopted the resolution on recognition of the crimes committed by the Soviet Union against the Crimean Tatars in 1944 as the genocide, as well as on condemnation of the current policy of Russia towards the Crimean Tatar people.
