Danyliuk: Minsk format of talks on peaceful settlement should be kept

Ukrinform
Adviser to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, former finance minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk has said that the Minsk format of negotiations on the peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine should be kept.

"As to the decrees of the president of the Russian Federation, the so-called ‘passportization’, the position of Volodymyr [Zelensky] was quite clearly formulated. We consider this as another attempt to disrupt the Minsk agreements and undermine the Minsk process. Of course, we cannot let this happen, because this process is important as a tool, perhaps not the most effective, but the only one that exists now. Many other processes are being formed around it, including sanctions," Danyliuk said in an interview with Obozrevatel.

As Ukrinform reported, on May 16, First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko said that "there are debates on resetting Minsk groups." On the same day, she reported that she had filed a letter of resignation from the posts of presidential commissioner on the peaceful settlement in Donbas and Ukraine's representative in the humanitarian group.

On May 19, Ukraine’s representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas Yevhen Marchuk announced that he had ceased participation in the Minsk talks.
