Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin called on OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier to exert all his influence to condemn Russia's illegal passportization of residents of the occupied Donbas

The press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported this following the meeting of Klimkin and Zannier in Kyiv.

"Pavlo Klimkin stressed the importance of close monitoring by the High Commissioner of the situation with the rights of persons belonging to national minorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. He called on the OSCE High Commissioner to make the most of his powers in the context of condemning the recent illegal decisions of the Russian Federation aimed at simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship by certain categories of citizens of Ukraine,” the report says.

In turn, Zannier stressed the importance of the adopted Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as a State Language", noting the need to further develop a new law that determines the procedure for implementing the rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine.

Klimkin and Zannier discussed further development of cooperation between Ukraine and the High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) in the field of the protection of the rights of national minorities in accordance with OSCE commitments.
