Trump's lawyer cancels visit to Kyiv, meeting with Zelensky

U.S. President Donald Trump's personal attorney, Rudolph Giuliani, has canceled his visit to Kyiv where he was to meet with Ukraine's President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Fox News.

"I'm convinced from what I've heard from two very reliable people tonight that the president [Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky] is surrounded by people who are enemies of the president [Trump], and people who are -- at least [in] one case -- clearly corrupt and involved in this scheme [interference in the U.S. presidential election in 2016]," he was quoted as commenting on his refusal to visit Ukraine.

According to the report, Giuliani believed he would be "walking into a group of people that are enemies of the president, and in some cases, enemies of the United States."

Giuliani said that his decisions had nothing to do with the upcoming 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Giuliani earlier announced plans to visit Kyiv to meet with Zelensky to convince the Ukrainian authorities of the need to launch an investigation involving the interests of U.S. President Donald Trump on Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

During his visit to Kyiv, Giuliani also hoped to get new information on the work of the son of former U.S. vice president and Trump's main rival in the current presidential race Joe Biden in the board of directors of Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings.
