Poroshenko's administration to Zelensky: Ukraine is not a room in Egyptian hotel
"The team of Petro Poroshenko does not accept any claims regarding an alleged delay in the inauguration," the report reads.
It also notes that Poroshenko "respects both the choice of Ukrainians and the position of the highest legislative body." Any date of inauguration, which will be determined by the Verkhovna Rada, is acceptable to him, according to the statement.
By the time of the inauguration of the new president, Poroshenko remains the current head of state and is responsible for the situation in the country, fulfilling his duties in accordance with the spirit and the letter of the Constitution, the press service said.
"Ukraine is not a room in an Egyptian hotel, as it seems to Mr. Zelensky. The transfer of power is a complicated and responsible process, and Petro Poroshenko wants to implement it in accordance with European traditions, as is common in democratic countries," the Presidential Administration said.
Zelensky earlier addressed Ukrainian MPs and demanded that the date of his inauguration be set for May 19. In this context, he expressed his claims to Poroshenko, drawing parallels with the behavior of a tourist in an Egyptian hotel who is preparing to leave.
