Poroshenko thanks Ukrainians for support during his presidency

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked Ukrainians for five years in office as the head of the Ukrainian state.

He stated this during a visit to Lviv on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“I am grateful that the Ukrainian people gave me great happiness to be the leader of this state and this great nation for five years,” Poroshenko noted.

However, the president did not rule out that he would return to the presidency in the future.

Poroshenko also emphasized the importance of protecting reforms initiated in the state, including decentralization, transparency of public procurement, investment climate. "We will defend everything we have achieved with enormous efforts. And we will not allow anyone to steal these achievements from us," he said.

"We will do everything possible to protect our achievements... Together, we need to protect our army, we need to protect our church, and we need to protect our language," he said.

As reported, the second round of Ukraine’s presidential election was held on Sunday, April 21.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 30, where it will announce the final results of the presidential election in Ukraine.

According to the results of the electronic protocols, Volodymyr Zelensky won the presidential election as he garnered 73.22% of the vote. 24.45% of Ukrainians cast their votes for incumbent President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

18,491,840 Ukrainians took part in voting.
