Poroshenko: Adoption of language law is a truly historic decision

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko wrote this on Facebook

"Adoption of the law on ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as a state language is a truly historic decision, which stands together with the restoration of our army and the receipt of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine," Poroshenko wrote.

He thanked everyone who participated in the development, drawing up and implementation of the language law, MPs for their votes, and all Ukrainians for their support.

"This is another important step on the way to our mental independence," Poroshenko stressed.

On April 25, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the Ukrainian language. A total of 278 lawmakers voted for the document, with at least 226 votes required to make the decision.
