Polish defense minister hopes Zelensky to bring Ukraine closer to NATO

Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak hopes that the newly elected President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will bring Ukraine closer to the European Union and NATO.

"The president-elect [Zelensky] received a very strong mandate. I hope that this support will be used to bring Ukraine closer to the European Union and NATO. It is very good that such declarations are voiced. We are very glad that such statements have been made by the newly elected president," Błaszczak said this in an interview with the Polish Radio.

Earlier, representatives of different Polish parties congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky on winning Ukraine's presidential election.

As reported, the second round of Ukraine’s presidential elections was held on Sunday, April 21. According to the National Exit Poll, Volodymyr Zelensky won 73% of the vote, and Petro Poroshenko got 25.5%.

A total of 199 territorial electoral districts and one overseas electoral district, as well as about 30,000 precinct election commissions, were formed. 101 polling stations operated abroad.

The voter turnout was 62.07%.
