The resolution "Non-admissibility of using mercenaries as means of undermining peace and violating human rights", prepared by the Ukrainian delegation, was adopted at the session of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

“Yesterday, the Ukrainian resolution was adopted at the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Qatar. It was the first time, when a resolution authored by Ukrainian lawmakers was adopted at the IPU Assembly.

This document directly concerns countering Russian aggression against Ukraine as it aims to struggle with military mercenarism and private military companies, which are used by Russia as a terrorist country in the war against Ukraine. It is a very important diplomatic victory," Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy said at a morning plenary sitting on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

As reported, the previous day, the relevant committee approved a draft resolution on the non-admissibility of using mercenaries as means of undermining peace and violating human rights at a session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Qatar. The Assembly’s final vote on the draft resolution was held on April 10.

The draft resolution paid special attention to the protection of the rights of women and children in armed conflicts and the problem of violence against this vulnerable group.
