Ukraine is concerned about the recent escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and adheres to the resolution of the UN Security Council regarding the status of the Golan Heights.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kateryna Zelenko said this in a statement on Tuesday.

"Ukraine respects the UN Charter and adheres to the decisions of the UN Security Council. The issue of the Golan Heights has been repeatedly considered by the UN Security Council, which adopted relevant decisions, in particular Resolution No. 242 of 1967, Resolution No. 465 of 1980, Resolution No. 497 of 1981," Zelenko said.

At the same time, she stressed that Ukraine continued to consistently stand for a peaceful settlement in the Middle East, taking into account Israel's legitimate interests related to security issues.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that Ukraine was concerned about the recent escalation of the situation in the Gaza Strip, which occurred in the last 24 hours as a result of the shelling of a civilian object in Israel on March 25.

"HAMAS’s terrorist attacks in Israel, including the missile attacks on the Israeli territory, are deadly dangerous for the civilians and, thus, are absolutely unacceptable. We urge both Israel and Palestine to exercise maximum restraint in order to avoid further armed conflict," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

As reported, after U.S. President Donald Trump recognized the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the UN would continue the policy of not recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
