U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale said this at a press conference in Kyiv on March 7, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"We discussed the energy sector at almost every meeting that I held here, including a meeting with the prime minister. Each country in the world should remember that energy security means practically the same as national security. Therefore, this was one of the topics of my discussions in Ukraine, as well as the need for clean energy sector, which is controlled by market forces," he said.
He stressed that energy issues in this part of the world were very important for the United States in terms of both national interests and stability and security of Europe.
“Situation in the energy sector of Ukraine is directly related to such energy issues as Nord Stream 2, the construction of which the U.S. is opposing,” Hale noted.
