Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze met with a delegation of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee headed by its leadership Thomas Goffus.

Klympush-Tsintsadze thanked the American side for its consistent support of Ukraine, in particular, for the decision made in 2019 to increase the amount of funds for the implementation of assistance programs to our state, which significantly strengthen Ukraine's ability to withstand Russian aggression, the Government portal reported.

She also urged not to halt sanctions pressure on Russia especially in the context of violence in international waters near the Kerch Strait.

"Russia's aggressive actions in the Black Sea region undermine regional and international security and jeopardize international law and relevant bilateral agreements. Such actions require increased international pressure on the Kremlin. I expect close attention from the U.S. to this situation and further condemnation of the Russian armed attack on Ukrainian sailors near the Kerch Strait," Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stressed.

In turn, Thomas Goffus assured that the United States fully supported Ukraine in implementation of democratic reforms amid the pressure of the Russian Federation and praised the progress made by Ukraine.

"Ukraine has taken the right position and is moving in the right direction. We are convinced that Ukraine's success is the best weapon in confrontation with Russia and we intend to invest heavily in this. The whole world saw that Russia's actions in the Kerch Strait were a provocation. Definitely such behavior is unacceptable. We are searching for ways to extend and strengthen sanctions against the Kremlin," the American official stressed.
