U.S. Embassy outlines priority reforms for Ukraine
"Of course, we understand that there are players, who are not interested in certain aspects of the reforms which do not meet their interests. However, if we speak about priorities on the whole, we believe that the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank should continue to implement the launched financial and fiscal reforms and also continue to reform the fiscal and tax services. I believe that the implementation of these reforms is realistic. Furthermore, it is also a requirement for continued participation in the IMF program," U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Pamela Tremont said at a briefing on reforms in Kyiv, and Ukrinform correspondent reported.
Among other priorities she mentioned the reform of the energy sector, in particular, the unbundling of electricity producers, and the continuation of transparent privatization.
“We believe it is crucial for ensuring fiscal and financial soundness in Ukraine. We also consider it necessary to continue preparations for the launch of the land reform in Ukraine, that is, the beginning of land privatization,” the U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission emphasized.
With regard to the fight against corruption, the diplomat focused on the need to improve the effectiveness of the Anti-Corruption Court. In this context, it is also one of the requirements for Ukraine to continue to receive financial assistance from the international partners, and, moreover, all Ukrainian citizens are interested in the successful combating corruption, she recalled
As Tremont noted, the reform of the electoral code is also important.
