Chairman of the Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manher has been notified of suspicion in organizing the murder of activist Kateryna Handziuk.

"Citizen [of Ukraine] Manher has been notified of suspicion in organizing the murder of Kateryna Handziuk," Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko posted on Facebook.

A notice of suspicion, a scan copy of which Lutsenko published, in particular, reads that Manher was notified of suspicion in "organizing a murder, that is willful unlawful causing death of another person, based on mercenary motives, committed as a contracted murder, with special brutality, upon prior conspiracy by a group of persons, that is, in the commission of a crime provided for in Part 3, Article 27 (Types of accomplices); Clause 4, Clause 6, Clause 11, Clause 12, Clause 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ( Murder).”

Last week, the Kherson regional organization of the Batkivshchyna Party excluded Chairman of the Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manher from the party members.

On January 31, Chairman of the Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manher suspended his membership in the Batkivshchyna Party for a period of the investigation into the murder of activist Handziuk.

Earlier, the father of Kateryna Handziuk, speaking at a meeting of the interim investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada to investigate into the murder of the activist, said that the suspect for organizing the murder, crime lord Oleksiy Levin (Moskal) cooperated with Chairman of the Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manher and Chairman of the Kherson Regional State Administration Andriy Hordeyev and his deputy Yevhen Ryshchuk.

Hordeyev rejected the allegations of involvement in the murder of Handziuk and called on the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, chief of the Security service of Ukraine and the interior minister to verify the facts set forth in the appeal of Viktor Handziuk.

Member of the Kherson City Council, activist Kateryna Handziuk became the victim of an acid attack last summer. She suffered chemical burns and partially lost sight. Handziuk underwent over ten operations and died at hospital on November 4. The woman was 33 years old.

The same day, the investigators requalified the attack on Handziuk to “murder, that is willful unlawful causing death of another person, based on mercenary motives, committed as a contracted murder, with special brutality, upon prior conspiracy by a group of persons.” Five people were detained on suspicion in an assassination attempt on Handziuk. On November 12, it became known about the arrest of Ihor Pavlovsky, the ex-assistant to MP Mykola Palamarchuk.
