Merkel, Abe discuss relations with Russia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe discussed relations with Russia during the first day of the chancellor’s visit to Tokyo.

"We are looking at Russia from two sides, and that is why we talked a lot about cooperation with Russia, as well as the problems with Russia, including Ukraine and the fact that Japan still does not have a peace treaty," Merkel said at a joint press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The chancellor assured that she supported all the efforts of the Japanese authorities, particularly the actions of Abe that were recently demonstrated in Moscow in order to achieve a peace treaty between Japan and the Russian Federation.
