West will continue to support Ukraine - Volker
He said in an interview with Ukraine's Priamy television channel that if the country were truly hopelessly corrupt or undemocratic, there would be no support of this kind.
In his opinion, Ukraine, instead, is strengthening its democratic institutions, reforming the economy, trying to care for its people, increasing the pace of growth, and introducing a system of social and economic security.
The U.S. diplomat stressed that in the past, the United States has already seen examples of unsuccessful changes in other European countries. He believes that Ukraine is now on the right reform path.
In terms of strengthening national identity, introducing reforms that have already led to economic growth, Ukraine has done more in all areas over the past four years after the Revolution of Dignity than during all previous decades, Volker said.
He believes that Ukrainians have the right to demand and strive for more, but it is necessary to recognize the achievements of recent years and the fact that Ukraine is now gradually moving in the right direction.
According to him, Ukraine needs to be rich, fair and predictable, and people have the right to demand that. Looking at the entire history of Ukraine, the state is finally gradually moving in the right direction, he added.
