Turkey has notified the Ukrainian side of the consuls’ intention to visit the occupied Crimea in connection with the death of Turkish citizens in the fire on the ships in the Kerch Strait.

"The Ukrainian side was notified through the diplomatic channels of the intentions of the Turkish consuls to visit the occupied Crimea for providing first-priority consular assistance in connection with the death of Turkish citizens as a result of the incident on two ships on January 21," Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Andriy Sybiha tweeted.

He emphasized that this situation in no way changed Turkey's firm stance on Crimea, namely the non-recognition of the occupation of the Ukrainian peninsula by Russia. As the Turkish side assured, it is a forced response caused by the urgent humanitarian circumstances.

On January 21, two ships flying Tanzania’s flag caught fire in the Kerch Strait. According to preliminary data, an explosion occurred on one of them. At least 11 people were killed in the fire.
