The Council of Europe and PACE must properly respond to the situation in Crimea and in eastern Ukraine.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Timo Soini made the relevant statement, addressing the delegates of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“I expressed concern about the events in the Sea of Azov and in the Kerch Strait. I urge all the parties to avoid escalation of tensions. The situation in Crimea and in eastern Ukraine must not be ignored,” said Timo Soini, who currently chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Soini again expressed support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders of the state.
