Former SBU head to stand for Ukrainian presidency

Colonel-General Ihor Smeshko, who headed the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in 2003-2005, has said he is going to nominate his candidacy in Ukraine's presidential election.

He wrote this on his Facebook page on Sunday, January 13.

"I have started collecting documents for registration in the CEC [Central Election Commission] as a candidate for the Ukrainian presidency," Smeshko wrote.

Earlier, Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the head of the Justice Public and Political Movement of Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, who also served as SBU chief, was nominated a candidate for the post of Ukraine's president in the election scheduled for March 31, 2019.
