Russia decides not to hold videoconference on hostages’ release

Russia and ORDLO representatives have refused to hold a videoconference on December 29 regarding the release of hostages.

Ukraine’s representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, the First Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Iryna Gerashchenko, informed this on her Facebook page.

"Russians and their puppets from separate districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (ORDLO) have refused to hold a videoconference of the humanitarian subgroup on December 29 to agree on the release of the hostages," Gerashchenko wrote.

She also noted a passive stand of the OSCE coordinator in the humanitarian subgroup.

According to Gerashchenko, Russians did not give any response to the proposal to transfer convicted citizens of the Russian Federation in exchange for political prisoners of the Kremlin. Russia also did not respond to these proposals through diplomatic channels and to requests by Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova.

"At the same time, the militants continue to add Russians and Berkut officers involved in the terrorist attacks in Odesa and Kharkiv into the lists of liberation (ORDLO’s lists already include 26 citizens of the Russian Federation). As of today, ORDLO confirmed the detention of only 23 Ukrainians. They demand us to free 196 Russians. And they call it an exchange in the format of “all identified persons for all identified persons,” Gerashchenko said.

According to the first vice speaker, for several years the Ukrainian side has not been given an answer on holding more than 70 of our citizens in the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk.

Gerashchenko noted that the Russian Federation also did not agree to transfer political prisoners of the Kremlin.
