The Ukrainian parliament approved bill No.8449-d "On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine regarding the provision of competitive conditions for the production of electricity from alternative energy sources."

A total of 227 MPs voted in favor of the relevant draft law as a basis, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to an explanatory note, the bill will create a legislative framework for introducing competitive principles to support renewable energy facilities and achieve a balance of interests of society and consumers of electricity and other market participants, ensuring further development of renewable energy and reducing the cost burden on electricity price.

Also, the bill will bring the Ukrainian legislation closer to the EU legislation regarding the provision of assistance in the field of energy.

The profile committee recommended that this bill be adopted as a basis. Its adoption will create opportunities to improve the structure of renewable energy market and will help reduce the cost burden on electricity consumers in Ukraine, improve the country’s investment attractiveness and will help reduce Ukraine’s energy dependence, the profile committee added.
