The Federal Council of Switzerland decided to freeze for another year the assets of former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage.

The Swiss Embassy to Ukraine wrote this on its Tweeter page.

“On 19 December, the Federal Council decided to extend for one year the preventive freeze on the assets of ousted president Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage,” reads the statement.

The Embassy also added that “the purpose of this decision is to support the judicial cooperation between Switzerland and Ukraine.”

As reported, because of the political crisis in Ukraine in February 2014, the Federal Council of Switzerland announced it would freeze the accounts of Yanukovych and his entourage. This concerns the assets totaling over 70 million Swiss francs (over $69 million). Since then, the Swiss Council continued to freeze these assets each year.
