President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that the European Union will extend the sanctions against Russia over non-fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and aggression against Ukraine on Thursday.

"Yesterday, we had very successful talks with representatives of the European Council headed by Donald Tusk and we firmly believe that the sanctions against the Russian Federation will be extended today," Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, the sanctions against the Russian Federation will be extended over the failure to comply with the Minsk agreements, conduct of the illegal elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, complete disrespect for international law, aggression against the Ukrainian state.

As reported, European Council President Donald Tusk said that the EU leaders would decide on the extension of sanctions against Russia at a summit in Brussels on December 13-14.
