Merkel: EU can’t accept ‘actual claims’ of Moscow to Sea of Azov

Germany will advocate extending of the sanctions against the Russian Federation.

"We will advocate extending of the sanctions," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, answering the questions of the Bundestag members on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the Chancellor, there is a big concern about the actions of Russia. The EU, of course, cannot accept "the actual claims" of Moscow to the Sea of Azov, Merkel noted.

A source in Merkel’s entourage told about the "readiness" to extend the sanctions for the next six months. As for tightening or expanding of the restrictive measures over the recent events in the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov, "there is no consensus yet."
