The next meeting in the “Normandy format” is scheduled for January, German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert has said.

“The meeting should be continued in January,” the government spokesman said at a briefing in Berlin on Wednesday.

The participants agreed not to disclose details of the meeting.

Seibert recalled that at the end of November the German Federal Government condemned the use of military force by the Russian side in the Kerch Strait. Germany believes that a dialogue and de-escalation are urgently needed in order to avoid further escalation. “That’s what yesterday’s meeting was aimed at,” he added.

A meeting in the "Normandy format" at the level of political advisers regarding the situation in the Sea of Azov took place in Berlin on Tuesday. The Ukrainian side was represented by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev. Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal also took part in the talks.

The Russian side was represented by presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, the German side – by advisor to the German Chancellor Jan Hecker.
