Groysman, Steinmeier discuss sanctions policy and Nord Stream 2

"I met with President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier. We discussed the sanctions policy and the need for tough responses to the aggression of the Russian Federation," Groysman wrote on Twitter.

According to the Government portal, the parties touched upon the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which serves mostly a hybrid weapon against the EU, rather than an energy tool for the consumers. The prime minister stressed that "there is no guarantee that Moscow would keep its promises." Russia has repeatedly demonstrated its proclivity for intimidation and applying energy tools of influence to achieve its political ambitions. Therefore, a transit route via Ukraine remains the only alternative in the matter of ensuring the energy independence of European countries.

"Ukrainian transit infrastructure is more reliable and cheaper than Russian bypass gas pipelines," Groysman emphasized.

During the talks, the sides also discussed cooperation in the economic sphere and the Government's plans in the context of economic reform and the formation of anti-corruption policy.

As reported, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman is on a two-day working visit to Germany.
