Merkel intends to discuss situation in Sea of Azov with Putin at G20 summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel intends to raise the issue of the situation in the Sea of Azov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

“We advocate finding a peaceful solution, but we must do everything so that Mariupol town would not be just cut off. In this context, I will raise this issue at a meeting with Russian president during the G20 summit,” Merkel said at the 3d German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

She expressed the hope that the Azov region would soon be free for shipping.

There should be no military solution in this confrontation between the two countries, the German Chancellor added.

The head of the German government also condemned the construction of the Kerch Bridge.

Merkel added that Germany and France were ready to continue to work in the "Normandy format."

The Chancellor noted that the Minsk agreements had contributed to the de-escalation but did not lead to a ceasefire or to a political decision, and Ukraine had failed to get access to its own borders in the east.
