President of the European Council Donald Tusk has assured President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a phone conversation that he will do everything possible to consolidate the position of the EU countries in support of Ukraine.

"The President of the European Council assured that he would do everything possible to consolidate the position of the countries of the European Union in support of Ukraine in rebuffing Russian aggression and continuation of sanctions policy," the press service of the head of state reported.

Poroshenko informed of Russia's aggression against Ukraine in the waters of the Kerch Strait.

All actions against Ukrainian sailors and ships were called a brutal violation of international law and, in particular, the Budapest memorandum.

Donald Tusk expressed his concern over Russia's aggressive actions and the escalation of the situation and declared full support for Ukraine.

The interlocutors agreed to continue contacts at the highest level.

Earlier on Monday, the Ukrainian president held telephone conversations with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

As reported, three Ukrainian vessels remain seized by Russian special forces in the Black Sea after fire was opened on them. Two Ukrainian boats Berdiansk and Nikopol were struck by enemy fire and lost their course. The Yanu Kapu tugboat was also forced to stop. At least six Ukrainian servicemen were wounded.

President Petro Poroshenko held a War Cabinet due to extraordinary events in the Azov Sea. Ukraine asked for a meeting of the UN Security Council to be urgently convened.

At a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on Monday, President Petro Poroshenko supported the proposal of the War Cabinet to introduce martial law, submit it for consideration by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and forward it to the Verkhovna Rada.
