Ukraine, Slovakia coordinate actions aimed at preventing construction of Nord Stream 2

The presidents held a meeting in Kyiv on November 23, the press service of the Ukrainian head of state reported.

"We have negotiated the coordination of our efforts to prevent the construction of a politically motivated Russian project Nord Stream 2. And we note that we have a common position on this project. We have a firm intention to coordinate our actions in the future," Poroshenko emphasized.

He also thanked the Slovak president and the Slovak government for supporting Ukraine in gas supply. "Three years ago, in October 2015, when the Russian Federation cut off the supply of gas to Ukraine, trying to create both social and economic problems, Slovakia was the first to provide us with European gas through an interconnector. Today, it is one of the main suppliers of gas, which ensures the energy independence of Ukraine," the president stressed.

In turn, Andrej Kiska said that "Slovakia ensures the supply of gas to Ukraine. If I have the correct information - 90% of gas coming to Ukraine is from Slovakia".

"As for Nord Stream 2, Slovakia always claims that it is not an economic project, but a political one. And it is extremely important to understand that when someone is constantly repeating that this is just an economic project. No, it is a purely political project," the Slovak president stressed.
