Ukraine, tackling Russian aggression, is at the center of a geopolitical struggle for the future of the whole of Europe, and the United States will continue to support the Ukrainian nation in its aspiration to build its own free future.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell said this in Washington on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Ukraine is at the center of a geopolitical struggle for the future of Europe," he said in his speech at the Forum in Commemoration of the 85th Anniversary of the Holodomor Genocide in Ukraine 1932-1933.

Mitchell said that the United States stands "with Ukrainians in their struggle for a brighter future, free from vassalage, free from corruption, the government that is accountable to its people."

According to him, "the North Star of our Ukrainian policy will remain our support for the Ukrainian nation-state, its sovereignty, self-determination and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders."

The Forum in Commemoration of the 85th Anniversary of the Holodomor Genocide in Ukraine 1932-1933 was held at the premises of the Heritage Foundation in Washington.
