The European Commission has a clear position regarding the intention to hold the so-called elections in non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and does not recognize their legitimacy.

Maja Kocijancic, the Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, said this on Wednesday during a press briefing, responding to a question from Ukrinform about the position of the EU and the European Commission regarding Russia’s intention to hold elections in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“A week ago we expressed our position on this issue. We noted that we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and we do not recognize the legitimacy of elections in these territories,” she said.

As reported, pro-Russian militants in Donbas announced the holding of the so-called "elections" in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions scheduled for November 11.
