Merkel to discuss bilateral cooperation, implementation of Minsk agreements in Kyiv
German government spokesperson Ulrike Demmer said this at a briefing on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"On Thursday, November 1, the federal chancellor will pay a visit to Kyiv. There will be talks between Merkel and President Petro Poroshenko that will focus on bilateral German-Ukrainian relations, the conflict in the east and the implementation of the Minsk agreements," Demmer said.
She noted that these agreements remain the only basis for resolving this conflict. It is necessary to have a political will to fully implement all 13 clauses of the agreements, including in the area of the withdrawal of heavy weapons and holding local elections under OSCE standards.
A press conference is to be held after the talks.
Bilateral economic relations and international issues will be discussed during talks with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
The chancellor also intends to meet with the leaders of parliamentary factions.
Merkel plans to return to Berlin the same day.
