Almost 100 Ukrainian political prisoners are currently kept in Russia and in the occupied territories, which is reminiscent of the Soviet times, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has stated.

“Again there are political prisoners in Russia. We counted almost 100 Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. This is the return of the USSR era,” Klimkin said in his speech at the Warsaw Security Forum, an Ukrinform’s own correspondent reports.

According to him, Ukraine wants to have its own independent state and independently make decisions about its future, but the Kremlin does not support this.

“Russia cannot accept this, so there was the occupation of Crimea and Donbas,” stated Klimkin.

The minister stressed that Ukraine shares European values, which at the same time are alien to Russia. He noted that Russia, on the contrary, is afraid of the European values and transatlantic unity.

In his speech, Klimkin also drew attention to the implementation of the North Stream 2 project. According to him, if a political approach to the implementation of this project is accepted, this will lead to the complete dependence of Europe on the Russian Federation.
