Ukraine strongly condemns the official contacts of the Syrian Arab Republic with the occupation authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

"On October 15-16, 2018, the so-called official delegation of the occupation authorities of Crimea led by Sergey Aksyonov stayed in the Syrian Arab Republic at the invitation of Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil. In this regard, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine states that holding of negotiations of Syrian officials with representatives of the occupation authorities of Crimea... is a gross violation of Ukraine’s state sovereignty, interference in its internal affairs as well as violation of fundamental norms and principles of the international law," reads the statement released on the website of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

As the Foreign Ministry notes, the aforementioned illegal actions of the Syrian side, with which the Syrian authorities try to please the current Russian regime, cause irreparable harm to diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Syrian Arab Republic.

The corresponding note of protest was handed over to the Syrian side, the Foreign Ministry informs.
