Poroshenko tables in parliament a bill on transfer of St. Andrew's Church to Constantinople

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has tabled in the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the transfer of St. Andrew's Church to the Ecumenical Patriarch.

A respective document, titled "About the peculiarities of use of St. Andrew's Church of the Sophia of Kyiv National Reserve," was registered on the website of the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday.

The bill was determined by the president as urgent and submitted for consideration to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada.

The head of state proposes supplementing the law on freedom of conscience and religious organizations with Article 17-1 (the peculiarities of the transfer to use of a prominent object of cultural heritage, a monument of national significance, a religious building - St. Andrew's Church of the Sophia of Kyiv National Reserve).

It is expected that the transfer to permanent use of St. Andrew's Church of the Sophia of Kyiv National Reserve should be carried out under the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.
