Almost 66% of Ukrainians support accession to European Union
Such results of the poll were presented by Director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, Volodymyr Paniotto, and his deputy Anton Hryshytsky at a press conference on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"If a referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the EU was held, 47.9% of the country's population would vote in favor, 25.1% would vote against, and 11.5% would abstain and would not vote. Another 15.5% of respondents were undecided or refused to answer the question... 65.7% of Ukrainians, who are ready to participate in the referendum, would vote for joining the European Union," the sociologists said.
According to Paniotto, 72% of the residents of western Ukraine, 48% of the residents of central Ukraine, 32.2% of the population of southern Ukraine, 31.9% of eastern Ukraine residents and 24.3% of the population of Donbas would support joining the EU.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted the poll on September 12-24 throughout Ukraine, except for Crimea and the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
