Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has given the Hungarian Foreign Ministry a week to recall its consul from the town of Berehove in Zakarpattia region.

He stated this in a video address released on Monday, October 1, on his Facebook page.

"I invited the Hungarian foreign minister to recall this consul. If this is not done this week, then we will send a note to the Hungarian side about his expulsion," Klimkin said.

The minister also recalled that Hungary had violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

"I provided our arguments to the Hungarian foreign minister. They violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. It's obvious. Of course, by definition, nobody should hide the fact of acquiring new rights and responsibilities," he said.

Klimkin believes that the situation with dual citizenship is used by Russia to destabilize the situation in Zakarpattia region.

"Let's look at the main thing. The main thing is that Russia uses and will use this situation to destabilize Zakarpattia region. Do you remember those incidents of arson and so on, which were organized by the FSB from Transdniestria? There will also be others. Do you remember that there were a lot of fake news stories on the Internet right after this video? We must be conscious," he said.

Klimkin called for the provision of assistance to the Hungarian community.

"We need to help our Hungarian community. We have to display initiative. We will work with Hungary in a polite, but very tough and consistent manner," he said.
