Poroshenko, Merkel discuss prospects of extending sanctions against Russia

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the prospects of extending sanctions against the Russian Federation.

"I and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the prospects of extending sanctions against the Russian Federation in a telephone conversation. I underscored the importance of intensifying efforts to free all Ukrainian hostages, including Oleg Sentsov and Roman Sushchenko," the President posted on Facebook.

It was agreed to continue peacekeeping efforts and contacts at the highest level for the liberation of Ukrainian territories from Russian aggression, Poroshenko noted

As the press service of the Head of State reports, the parties also touched upon the situation in Donbas and issues on bilateral agenda, including energy security.

The agenda of Merkel's visit to Ukraine was also discussed.

As reported, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to visit Ukraine in early November.
