NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzalez, believes that Ukraine will gain full membership in the Alliance, although acknowledges that the country’s path won’t be easy.

"As for Ukraine, a compromise was reached at the 2008 Bucharest summit, which was confirmed this year in Brussels, and Ukraine was recognized as an aspirant country. It will be difficult [for Ukraine] to gain full membership in the Alliance, but we all hope this will become a reality," Alvargonzalez said at the 15th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

NATO should help Ukraine achieve this goal, and the Alliance provides assistance in the implementation of important reforms that make Ukraine stronger in the face of present-day challenges, the NATO's Assistant Secretary General noted.
