The European Court of Human Rights has registered the interstate application of Ukraine against Russia on violations of the rights of Ukrainians, who have been illegally detained in Crimea and the Russian Federation.

"The court [ECHR] has officially registered a new interstate application of Ukraine against Russia under No. 38334/18," Ukrainian Deputy Justice Minister - Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights Ivan Lishchyna posted on Facebook.

In addition, the registered application concerns violations of the rights of Ukrainians who have been illegally detained in Crimea and the Russian Federation.

As reported, Ukraine in early August filed a new interstate application with the European Court of Human Rights over the Kremlin’s Ukrainian political prisoners.

About 70 Ukrainian political prisoners, including Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison on trumped-up espionage charges, are held in the annexed Crimea and Russia.
