President, Prime Minister congratulate Ukrainians on Independence Day
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko posted his congratulations on Facebook on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence.
"Freedom, Will and Independence have never been given to Ukraine easily. Although today we are paying a high price for the right to be independent, defending our land from the aggressor, we are a united and unbreakable nation, an independent European state, a unified and indivisible Ukraine, the generations of Ukrainian fighters for freedom of our country have dreamed of this for centuries," the president stressed.
In turn, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said in his congratulations that he is proud of the glorious history of Ukraine and Ukrainians of different ages and professions.
"Today we celebrate the 27th anniversary of independence. I am proud of my country. Congratulations on Independence Day, Ukraine!" the head of government said.
In the morning of August 24, the Ukrainian president and his wife, Maryna, attended a festive prayer for Ukraine at the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. The event was also attended by priests of different churches, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Vitali Klitschko.
