Denisova intends to travel to Greece to visit Ukrainians prisoners

Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova in September intends to visit Ukrainian citizens detained in Greece.

She stated this in an interview with Priamyi TV Channel.

"We are holding talks with the Greek Ombudsman, Attorney General, Supreme Court so that I could go to Greece in September and visit our imprisoned citizens," Denisova said.

In addition, she said she had appealed to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, for the release of Ukrainian citizens.

Denisov recalled that, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 165 Ukrainians are now imprisoned in Greece, of whom 140 - for the transportation of migrants. According to her, the term of imprisonment of some Ukrainian citizens convicted by the Greek court is 200 - 225 years.

At the same time, Denisova stressed that some Ukrainians held in prisons in Greece had been already recognized as victims of human trafficking.
