The waste management situation in Ukraine is discouraging: now only 2.7% of waste is incinerated and 3% is recycled.

Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko said this at the first meeting of the Coordinating Council on the implementation of the National Strategy for Waste Management in Ukraine until 2030, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"At present only 2.7% of waste is incinerated in Ukraine, while in the European Union, for example, this figure reaches 26%. Speaking about recycling, then the situation is much worse. 43% of waste in the EU is recycled and returned to consumption, while in Ukraine this figure reaches only 3%," said the deputy prime minister.

Zubko added that it is extremely important to implement the National Strategy for Waste Management in Ukraine so that to change the situation for better.
