NATO only one global security tool left in world – Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is the only one global security tool left in the world.

He stated this during the Svoboda Slova talk show on ICTV Channel on Monday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“At present the UN Security Council is not an instrument of global security in the current environment. And what do we have? There is only one global security tool left in the world. It is called NATO,” he said.

He explained that the country aggressor, Russia, is a member of the UN Security Council and it has a right of veto.

At the same time, Poroshenko said he hopes that NATO member states will not withdraw from the Alliance.

“The world is changing. The world is becoming more selfish. Country leaders put the protection of their countries in the foreground... But I’d like to stress that we have many examples when some countries withdrew from NATO and then returned - Greece, France, and other countries. I’m sure that now this will not happen and cannot happen," Poroshenko said.

He also stressed that the result of the NATO summit held last week is the fact that NATO is not going to listen or give the Russian Federation the right to stop the Ukrainian movement towards the Alliance.
