NATO not to interfere in Ukraine-Hungary conflict

Ukrinform
Ukraine and Hungary have to resolve themselves their disagreements on the law on education. The alliance will not interfere in this process.

Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov said this at a briefing on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to him, Hungary is a valuable partner of NATO, and Ukraine is an important partner of NATO. Therefore, it is in the interests of all parties to solve this situation. The alliance's position on the law on education remains unchanged. Ukraine has to fully comply with the recommendations of the Venice Commission, Vinnikov said.

He noted that the alliance could not influence Hungary's position, because according to the rules, even one NATO member country can block any issue, and therefore an important NATO strategy is finding consensus on any issues.

No NATO member wants the situation between Ukraine and Hungary to continue, Vinnikov said. He expressed hope that the countries would come to an understanding.

As reported, Hungary blocked the holding of a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the highest level due to the law on education.
